How to Play

How does it work?

We hang out in our chat a bit, and we read what the other players write. When someone wants to engage their character in the story they write a short piece (a few paragraphs, usually) about how their character acts and what happens to them.

Want someone else's character to interact with yours? Just talk to that character's writer in our chat and write a piece together. Usually this is done by taking turns writing a paragraph or two, always being mindful of leaving room for the other writer to be as creative as you are.
Want to join our crew of respectable rogues? Well, you’re in luck! If you’ve got imagination and inspiration, we’d love to have you on board.
We don’t have many requirements. We want you to come up with a real individual of a character – having read around the site, you’ll understand the kind of thing we’re looking for. All we ask is that you try to write for your character once every couple of weeks, that you are kind and respectful to your fellow writers, and that you have as much fun as you can!

Just a few points that we hope will ease your mind:
  • Knowledge of Star Trek is desirable but we aren’t expecting you to be an all-out Trekkie. If the atmosphere and storytelling appeal to you and you appreciate sci-fi or space opera, we can probably make something work for you.
  • English as a first language is not essential and you don’t have to be a professional writer, even though some of us are. All we ask is that you spellcheck your posts before sending them over the list. We want your writing to be the best it can be and, if you need us to, we’re all happy to help.
  • Creativity and diversity are the backbones of the Lone Star. We want your character to be original and authentic: fun for you to write and for everyone else to read.
